Fox sighting

First off, I have never seen this guy before. Out my back window, I saw a fox. Our yard is large and I have many pplantings and trees. Lots of cover. Last week there was a possum face to face with my dog, Xena. Xena was barking and the possum was hissing at her. I had to call her off.
So the fox was wandering around the yard, sniffing, etc. He left. I went upstairs. I was updating my blog. Husband called me and said he was back in the ayrd, by my shed. I looked, and he had caught something. It looked like a rabbit, and was already dead, not moving. Husband wanted to let the dog out and I said no. Whatever it was was already dead. The fox had to eat. He would've gone to kill something else, and we'd have a dead rabbit to clean up. What's the sense of that?
So, I took this opportynity to take lots of pictures. He is a beautiful animal. I feel bad that there has been so much building, that these wild animals don't have a place to go and are forced to live with us. I think he is probably living in a hole under a shed in the neighbors yard. The woodchucks used to live there, but I haven't seen them in a long time.
I warned my neighbor to keep her little dog inside and always keep her eye on him.

  1. I'm back from my trip and checking in with you :)
Congratulations on all of your menu choices....your will power is amazing, I'm not sure I could stop with one of those Chex bars. Good for you though...you are doing everything soooooo right!
The fox picture is amazing! When Mandy was in Pre-school, we took a field trip to the lamb farm. We were all gathered around the corral watching all the baby lambs. All of a sudden...a fox comes out of the woods, darts between the slats, grabs a baby lamb and runs off with it into the woods while it's bleeting. All the other ones were too, and the Mother came running and started making this heart sick noise....it was so awful!!! This all happened right in front of a group of 3 & 4 year olds, so of course the teacher says "oh look, the fox and lamb went off together to play"....most of them bought it, but not all. Plus it didn't help all of us Moms were sick to our stomachs and teary eyed. LMAO!! I can't ever see a fox without that picture flashing through my mind :)So yes, guard the pets!!! (hehe)

  2. Oh, Linda,
That's a horrible memory you have of that fox and baby lamb. I would never think he would come out with all those people around. Mine seemed very skittish, always looking around like someone was coming. It wasn't easy watching him eat that poor rabbit, seeing what you saw that day would probably give me nightmares...
Thanks for the inspiration on my willpower. We all have times of weakness, tho, lol. I had a week vacation in Sept. and am still trying to get back to pre-vacation weight.

  3. what a beautiful animal!! I've seen possums, raccoons, coyotes, deer where I have lived, but never a fox;that would be an interesting sight for sure; glad you got a chance to take some pictures

  4. Betty,
Yes, i thought he was beautiful, too. I felt bad for the poor rabbit, but was glad he didn't get one of the many squirrels I keep fed and watered. They're very tame, not afraid of my dog (they know she's harmless) and are around here all the time. I feel badly for the fox, too, we've lost alot of our open land in my neighborhood. Too much civilization!
